Some Mondays feel like they start on Monday.
This one started on Friday.
Because apparently my life has decided that weekends are no longer for relaxing. They’re simply the opening act for Monday’s chaos. ๐
Friday night brought us a football injury that nobody saw coming.
Landon got hurt, and suddenly we went from normal football night to trying to figure out exactly what happened, how badly he was hurt, and what the next steps were going to be. He’s still dealing with a lot of pain, and we don’t know yet exactly what we’re looking at with the muscles or tendons in his shoulder. We have an orthopedic appointment Wednesday, so for now he’s in a sling, taking it easy, and letting Momma help with the things he can’t do himself.
And while I was at the hospital with Landon, another one of my boys was at home worrying about his brother.
Hudson was so worried about Landon that he cried himself to sleep before I even made it home.
That one got me.
Because sometimes your kids drive you absolutely insane, and sometimes they remind you just how deeply they love each other.
Friday was scary.
Saturday?
Saturday my body basically looked at me and said:
“Nope.”
And for once, I listened.
There wasn’t some huge productive Saturday. There wasn’t a long list of things that needed to get done.
I rested.
That’s it.
And honestly?
I probably needed it.
Then Sunday arrived and apparently my body had received enough rest to allow me to return to my regularly scheduled programming.
First came grocery shopping with my mom.
Now, when I say grocery shopping with my mom takes at least three hours, I’m not exaggerating.
At least.
Because apparently grocery shopping is not simply go to the store, buy food, come home.
It’s an experience. ๐
After that came food prep for the week, cleaning, and getting the house somewhat prepared for the week ahead.
And then came Monday.
Because Monday apparently felt left out.
I started the day helping Landon get ready and making sure he had what he needed. Then I had to figure out the usual morning routine of getting the rest of the Chaos Crew where they needed to be.
My day of care giving actually went really well. I got him home, helped him get to the shower, cleaned up the cats’ area, vacuumed, did his laundry, and filled his pill boxes.
And then he looked at the pill boxes and said:
“You did all this? You did it perfectly! I didn’t realize you knew how I liked it.”
Sir.
I pay attention. โค๏ธ
Apparently that’s one of the things I’ve learned about caregiving: sometimes the biggest compliment isn’t “Thank you for helping me.”
Sometimes it’s “You remembered how I like it.”
Then there were more kids to pick up, more places to be, Landon still determined to go support his football team even though he can’t play right now, and eventually my real estate meeting.
And THAT actually ended up being one of my favorite parts of the whole day.
One of my mentors remembered something about me.
While she was getting snacks and drinks for everyone, she made sure there were diabetic-friendly snacks and drinks for me.
That might sound like a tiny thing.
It wasn’t.
I’m so used to being the person who remembers everybody else’s needs that having someone remember mine without being asked felt pretty damn special.
And then, apparently, I also discovered that I’m the creative one in the group.
Every time I added something to my vision board, someone else was saying:
“Oh my gosh, I love that.”
๐
I’ll take it.
So after an entire weekend of football injuries, worrying children, rest, three-hour grocery trips, meal prep, cleaning, caregiving, transportation, appointments, and real estate…
I finally came home at 11 PM.
The kids were already asleep.
No bedtime battles.
No one needed a ride.
No one needed me to find a missing shoe.
No emergency phone calls.
Just a quiet house.
And then I poured myself another hot coffee.
And you know what?
Today, everything was right with the world.
Maybe that’s the thing about this crazy life.
Sometimes the win isn’t something huge.
Sometimes the win is your kid making it through a scary injury.
Sometimes it’s your children loving each other so fiercely that they worry themselves to sleep.
Sometimes it’s listening to your body when it tells you to rest.
Sometimes it’s having someone remember something important about you.
And sometimes…
it’s drinking your coffee while it’s still HOT. โ๐
I’ll take the win.
Because around here, we celebrate the little things.
Especially when they’re caffeinated. โค๏ธ
